Hidden Figures Storied Narratives- New Works

This is a very special collection that grew out of a few different techniques. It began with layers of paint and simple shapes.

I’m fascinated by thinking and how we come to learn new information. Our brains are constantly looking for recognizable patterns to make sense of all the visual information we are bombarded with on the daily. Our minds are so freaking sophisticated and so quick that we aren’t even cognizant of this process. (Tangent apologies)

Anywho, I started looking at the shapes on the picture plane as if I were looking at the clouds. Various characters and storylines begin to emerge…

I grabbed some charcoal to illustrate what I saw going down on the picture plane. Mind you, it’s what I saw. You guys might see something else and actually probably will. I sorta wanted to never show this work because I thought it was too “cartoony” but feelings aren’t facts and I’m trying to learn something from every painting I do. Who knows maybe this work is a breakthrough for me?

My work is typically playful, but social narratives and issues surrounding identity always seem to weasel their way onto the canvas. I actually just figured that out just now! Perhaps I should work on my artist statement next. Again another tangent. Let us get back to the paintings featured in this gallery. I’ll give you a snippet of what I witnessed happening.

DOM DOM… (like the noise from Law & Order: Special Victims Unit)

A pink haired gray figure with no facial expression gets mouthy and grabs a sword.

A closed gray door with a tiny heart sends kisses to a stranger in the snow.

A blue faced blond decides to press her luck and open her umbrella indoors.

A greedy clown king plots how to take a popsicle from a hand that isn’t paying attention.

Finally I saw that Jack in the Box character from the land of misfit toys trying to tease a vulnerable heart.

The paintings are exclusively available on Fine Art America and can be printed in various sizes and on a variety of substrates and products. Click the images in the gallery to see all the purchasing options.
