Ever Evolving Artist Statement
I paint with an optimistic eye using my imagination, photos and observations. Art for me is a vehicle for connecting with folks. It's a way to chronicle our collective human experiences. I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Philosophy because I wanted to understand the "why" I think the way I do. I began painting to "see" what that thinking would look like. I'm an existentialist with a wicked sense of humor. I sketch directly onto the canvas and create multiple paintings at once. I'm never sure where the composition is going to lead me. I sometimes feel as if I'm surfing. Looking for that perfect mark, as if it were a wave, to guide my progress. My influences are many, but at the top of the list would be the cave painters of Lascaux the Abstract Expressionists of the 1940's and street art.
